On Saturday, August 9th, the Portland Timbers welcome Chivas USA to Providence Park in Portland, Oregon. The Timbers enter this match in 7th place of the Western Conference standings with a record of 6-7-9 (win-loss-tie) while Chivas enters as the 9th place team with a record of 6-10-5. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:30pm EST and can be seen on MLS Live.

Portland is coming off a 3-1 defeat on the road to the LA Galaxy and will be looking to get back in their winning ways. They last few weeks have been up and down for Portland. Prior to their defeat at the hands of the Galaxy, Portland had won their last two matches against Colorado and Montreal which gave them a little life in their race to move up the table to claim the 5th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Chivas on the other had are sitting in dead last and if they have any serious hopes of moving up the table, they will need to win this match. The Goats have lost their last three matches by a combined score of 7-1. Prior to their current three game slide, they had won their previous four. Chivas will need to find other players to put the ball in the back of the next besides Erick Torres. Torres leads the team in goals with 14 and has been their only consistent goal scorer.

This will be the third and final match of the season between these two teams (unless they meet in the playoff, which at this point is highly unlikely). The first match ended in a 1-1 tie at Providence Park. The second match was a 2-0 win for Portland in Carson, with Fanendo Adi scoring a brace.

Portland has too much talent right now for Chivas to even think they can win this match in front of a sellout crowd led by the Timbers Army. Portland has one shutout this year, against Chivas, and I feel that they will secure their second shutout of the season in this one. Portland wins big at home, 3-0.
