EPL Match Preview: West Ham United vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Saturday will begin Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure as Tottenham’s manager and it will occur at West Ham United. This will be Pochettino’s first opportunity to show what he can do at a major club. Last season, Pochettino managed Southampton and finished eighth in the league, an accomplishment that allowed Pochettino to make a move to White Hart Lane. West Ham United vs. Tottenham Hotspur will be a match between two up and coming teams, the outcome will be very close to call.

On the other hand, West Ham United will look to make a statement right out the gate. Last season, West Ham finished thirteenth and had beaten Tottenham three times. The main worry coach, Sam Allardyce, has to care about is finding a replacement for injured forward, Andy Carroll. Chances are that Allardyce could start newly acquired, Enner Valencia in Carroll’s spot, which would be a strong replacement, in my opinion.

Tottenham and Pochettino have been on a transfer spree by bringing in Ben Davies, Michel Vorm, DeAndre Yedlin and Eric Dier in an effort to strengthen the defense. Last season, Tottenham brought in Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela but struggled in their first season at White Hart Lane. Lamela and Soldado will look to turn that all around and that will begin at 10 AM on Saturday. Tottenham will be without the services of Vlad Chiriches, Kyle Walker, Mousa Dembele and Paulinho, so the road to victory could be a tough one.

Tottenham has had a rough time travelling to West Ham to play and it will be the same this time around. West Ham United has plenty of talent surrounding the team and Tottenham is getting stronger and stronger. Lewis Holtby and Lamela will hold down the midfield in an attempt to keep tabs on Valencia.

This is a rivalry between the two teams so tempers could flare. “The battle between the hams,” and it is shaping up to be a good one. My prediction is that Tottenham will break the streak and beat West Ham United 1-0 as Soldado scores for Tottenham.
