It took a late season surge to allow Manchester City to win the league last season and City is looking to make it three in four years, which is completely possible at this point. Manchester City basically has the same team as last year but has made some key additions in Fernando, Eliaquim Mangala and Willy Caballero. City and manager, Manuel Pellegrini, has secured the future for the team by re-signing Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero. Newcastle United vs. Manchester City will be City’s first chance at defending their title.

One thing Pellegrini is worrying about coming into the beginning of the season is the fitness of the team’s world-class players such as Aguero. The defensive combination of Pablo Zabaleta, Kompany and Martin Demichelis are coming into the season with some pre-season experience which will prove helpful for Pellegrini in his second campaign at the Etihad.

Last season, Newcastle finished tenth in the league after losing thirteen matches in the second half of the season. Newcastle was on a surge and could have finished somewhere near the top eight if the second half of the season wasn’t so devastating. Newcastle will be without a few top-ranked players in Siem de Jong, Cheick Tiote and Papiss Cisse. The loss of these players will be difficult to cope with for manager Alan Pardew which will call for the reliance on Remy Cabella, Moussa Sissoko and Yoan Gouffran.

Newcastle has had a devastating run with Manchester City for nine years and has not come away with a win against City for quite a long time. Daryl Janmaat and Tim Krul will make their debut for Newcastle which Pardew will hope both Dutchmen can make an impact.

Manchester City, outside of the FA Community Shield game against Arsenal, City has looked pretty impressive in the preseason with Jesus Navas showing great skill on the wing. Navas is a two-way player who can track back on defense as well as be a monstrosity on offense with deadly crosses. Navas will be my impact player for this game as I will look for Navas to bring balls into the box where Edin Dzeko and Steven Jovetic can score.

This writer predicts a 2-1 victory for Manchester City as a march for another title gets underway for the boys in light blue.
