Group Stage Round 1: Group C: Colombia vs. Greece

Time: Saturday, June 14, Noon EST

Channel: ABC

Colombia will be heavily favored in this Group C match-up between the South American nation and Greece, even without star striker Radamel Falcao. Colombia is a dark horse to go very deep in this tournament and will be favored to come out first in the group as well.

Greece, on the other hand, is not favored to leave Group C without some sort of miracle. However, there may not be a better technically-sound defense in the entire tournament, which will give every team in their group trouble. If they could get one win and keep the score-line low in other games, they could make it to the knockout stages.

What to Watch For:

Group C will be one of the most contested groups in the 2014 World Cup. Along with the two sides in this match, Japan and the Ivory Coast both have the talent and capability to make it to the next rounds. Expect both Greece and Colombia to start out very cautiously, as both teams will know that any mistake could cost their team a berth in the knockout stages.

Many people have Colombia advancing far in this tournament. I have the Colombians making it to the knockout stages, but as the second place team. Expect a low-scoring tie, as Greece’s stout defense holds off wave after wave of the Colombian attack.

Colombia 1, Greece 1
