France Men’s national Team announced their 23-man roster on Tuesday, May 13th. There were a few surprises to say the least. Manchester City‘s Samir Nasri and and Monaco‘s captain, Eric Abidal were both left off the roster. Neither of the two are listed on France’s standby roster either. Nasri has been capped by France 41 times while Abidal has been capped 67 times in his career.

It looks as if France is taking a very youthful squad to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup. Eight of the twenty three players listed are under the age of 25. One of those players is Antoine Greizmann, a winger for Real Sociedad, who made his international debut for France in March against the Netherlands. Another name left off the roster was Narsi’s teammate at Manchester City, Gael Clichy.

France looks like like they will be good on the attacking side of things with the likes of Karim Benzema, Olivier Giroud and Franck Ribery. It looks to me as if Head Coach Didier Deschamps is looking for a new fresh group of players for the future.

France was drawn into Group E with the likes of Switzerland, Ecuador and Honduras. Their first match sees them facing Honduras on June 15th in Port Alegre, Switzerland on June 20th in Salvador and they finish up the group on June 25th facing Ecuador in Rio De Janeiro.

Here are the 23 players Deschamps will be taking to Brazil:

Goalkeepers:

Hugo Lloris, Tottenham

Steve Mandanda, Marseille

Mickael Landreau, Bastia

Defenders:

Mathieu Debuchy, Newcastle

Bacary Sagna, Arsenal

Laurent Koscielny, Arsenal

Mamadou Sakho, Liverpool

Raphael Varane, Real Madrid

Eliaquim Mangala, Porto

Patrice Evra, Manchester United

Lucas Digne, PSG

Forwards:

Karim Benzema, Real Madrid

Olivier Giroud, Arsenal

Antoine Griezmann, Real Sociedad

Franck Ribery, Bayern Munich

Loic Remy, QPR
