The Ecuador Men’s National Team released their 30-man provisional roster for the 2014 World Cup on Wednesday May 14th. Head Coach Reinaldo Reuda is the man in charge of an Ecuadorian team that failed to make the 2010 World Cup.

Ecuador’s roster includes five players from the squad that made the 2006 World Cup, including Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia. Seven players play in Liga MX, including Enner Valencia and Tijuana players Jaime Ayoví and Fidel Martínez.

There is also one player on the squad that plays in MLS, Oswaldo Minda. Minda represented Ecuador at the 2011 Copa América. This is his third season as a midfielder for Chivas USA, he has scored two goals in his MLS career. He will hope to make the final 23-man roster, which must be submitted to FIFA by June 2.

The team will be carrying heavy hearts into the tournament after the sudden passing of striker Christian Benitez last July due to cardiac arrest while with his Qatari club El Jaish. His No. 11 jersey has been retired by La Tri.

Ecuador was drawn into Group E with Switzerland, France and Honduras. Their first group stage match will take place against Switzerland on June 15th in Brasilia. They will then travel to Salvador to face France on June 20th. Their final match will be on June 25th when they face Honduras in Rio De Janeiro.
