Week one is in the books for the 2014 NWSL season but one team has already placed their name as a NWSL Cup favorite, the Seattle Reign.

Led by the attacking duo of US Women’s National Team stars Sydney Leroux and Megan Rapinoe, the Reign offense unleashed a relentless attack against the Boston Breakers all match long. Scottish International striker, Kim Little made fans remember her name as she tallied two of the three Reign goals. Little showed incredible attacking movement and did not hesitate to put her body on the line in order to lead her team to victory.

Considering that the Breakers are not nearly as talented as the star-studded Reign, the score line should not have surprised too many people. Seattle is fortunate to have attackers like Leroux, Rapinoe and Little along with Hope Solo guarding the goal. The Breakers must be commended for their valiant efforts though, as the club held-off the relentless attack of the Reign for the entire first half. The unfortunate handball by Breakers defender Courtney Jones led to the Reign’s first goal of the game and the team never looked back from then on.

Seattle will look to keep the good times rolling against the Washington Spirit on April 23 at Moda Health Pitch Memorial Stadium. With all of these attacking options already firing on all cylinders for the Reign, it is no wonder critics are already placing them as early favorites to win it all.

Obviously the club will have to go through several tough opponents like Cascadia rival and defending champions, the Portland Thorns, and teams like the Western New York Flash and FC Kansas City. Each club has their fair share of internationally recognized players like Carli LloydAbby Wambach and Alex Morgan. This NWSL season will continue to grow the league’s presence in the US and will prove just how talented and exciting women’s soccer in America truly is.
